For education only, not financial advice. Everything published on PayinLife.com is written to help you understand the time cost of spending. It is not personalised financial, tax or legal advice โ€” all figures are estimates only, and they are not a substitute for a licensed professional in your jurisdiction.

Who writes this site

Every calculator, guide and case study is written and coded by Y.W. Fung, Founder & editor, PayinLife.com. There is no anonymous content team and no ghostwritten or AI-generated filler published under a fake byline. Where a piece describes a first-hand experiment, it is a genuine one, and the raw numbers are shown.

Our three-step verification process

  1. Source check. Every statistic starts at a primary publisher โ€” the IRS, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. Census Bureau, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), published bank rates, or a named peer-reviewed study. We do not cite a number we found only in another blog post.
  2. Independent recalculation. Every derived figure โ€” starting with our hourly wage formula (net pay minus job costs, divided by paid plus commute hours) โ€” is recomputed from the cited inputs and cross-checked against at least one independent, established source such as a government dataset or the CFPB's consumer guidance. Where sources disagree, we publish the range and say which source we used.
  3. Edge-case review. Before publication we test the arithmetic against edge cases โ€” part-time hours, leap years, overtime, zero-commute remote work โ€” and label any figure we derive ourselves as our own calculation, with the assumptions shown beside it so a reader can reproduce it on a payslip or a spreadsheet.

Dates, reviews and updates

Each guide and article carries a published date and a last-reviewed date. Prices used in case studies are U.S. list prices at the time of writing, and are re-checked whenever the piece is reviewed. Wage and tax benchmarks are re-checked against the latest published release at each review.

Corrections policy

We correct errors rather than quietly deleting them. If a figure or formula is wrong, email contact@payinlife.com. Substantive corrections are made on the page, the review date is updated, and the change is noted in the text. We aim to reply within five business days.

Advertising independence

The calculators are free and supported by display advertising. No article is sponsored, we do not accept payment for coverage or for a favourable mention, and advertisers have no input into our methodology, our editorial choices or the results the calculators produce.

Privacy in our reporting

Calculations run entirely in your browser. We never see the income or prices a reader enters, so no reader data is ever used as source material for an article.
