Corrections policy
Corrections are the fastest way to get our attention. If a statistic is out of date, a formula is wrong, or an example does not add up, tell us which page and which figure and we will check it against the primary source. When we change a published number we update the page’s “last reviewed” date so readers can see the article moved. If we disagree with a correction, we will still reply and explain the reasoning rather than leaving the message unanswered.
How long replies take
This is a small operation, not a support desk. Most messages get a reply within two business days; corrections and privacy requests are prioritised over everything else. Privacy requests under GDPR or CCPA are actioned within the statutory window — in practice much sooner, because the calculators run entirely in your browser and we hold very little data about anyone in the first place.
Before you write about a calculation
Roughly half the “the number looks wrong” emails we receive turn out to be one of three things, so these are worth checking first:
- A marginal tax rate entered instead of an effective one. Your effective rate is total tax withheld divided by gross pay, and it is usually well below the bracket you sit in.
- Monthly and annual figures mixed. Salary is entered per month or per year; expenses must match the mode you chose.
- Commuting entered as one-way. The field expects your total daily commuting time, both directions.
If none of those explain it, send us the exact inputs you used and the figure you expected — that is usually enough for us to reproduce the problem on the first try.
What we cannot help with
We cannot give personal financial, tax, investment, or legal advice, recommend a product or provider, or review your individual circumstances. Nothing on this site is regulated advice, and questions of that kind belong with a professional licensed where you live. We are happy to explain how any of our formulas work, in as much detail as you want.
Press and advertising
Journalists are welcome to reuse figures from our tables with attribution and a link to the page they came from; email us if you need the underlying calculation. We do not accept paid editorial placements, sponsored articles, or affiliate links in article text.
