Why we started PayinLife.com

PayinLife.com was founded for one reason: money is an abstraction, time is not. A $1,199 phone means nothing until you know it costs 57 hours of your actual, finite life. We built this tool to help ordinary earners develop a healthier, calmer relationship with spending — not through guilt or budgeting spreadsheets, but by restating every price in the one currency nobody can earn back. When people see a purchase written in hours, they make slower, more deliberate, and usually happier decisions.

Our method

Most "hourly wage" figures are fiction. They ignore tax, they ignore the unpaid hours you spend commuting, and they ignore what commuting costs you in fares and fuel. We compute:

Real net hourly wage = (Net weekly income − Weekly commute expense) ÷ (Work hours + Commute hours)

Then: Hours of life = Product price ÷ Real net hourly wage.

What we are not

We are not an anti-spending site. Some purchases are excellent trades — a tool that earns, a console that returns 800 hours of joy, a trip you'll retell for decades. We just want the trade made consciously.

Privacy stance

Everything runs client-side. We never see your salary. That's not a policy choice we could quietly reverse — it's how the app is built.
